The history of the aromatised wine, i.e. vermouth, goes back more than 2000 years. Hippocrates, a famous ancient Greek physician, found that if specific plants are soaked in Cretan wine, the drink acquires several medicinal properties. The drink is famous all over the world and it’s fame has lasted through centuries. The tradition of Martini started more than 140 years ago in North Eastern Italy in the picturesque Piedmont Mountains when businessmen Michel, Re, Agnelli and Baudino established a company which started producing alcoholic drinks. The advantage of the Piedmont district were the nearby Alpine pre-mountains where a lot of herbs grow and the taste of the there dry white wines which suits well with the herbs. Martini vermouth as it is known today was born in 1863. Today, Martini is without a doubt the most famous vermouth in the world.
